eMerge Network

Douglas Wixted, Informatics Project Leader at the DTMI, was a guest at the Winter Steering Committee Meeting for the NHGRI-supported eMERGE Network held February 25-26 in Bethesda, Maryland. The primary goal of the eMERGE (Electronic Medical Records and Genomics) Network is to develop, disseminate, and apply approaches to research that combine DNA biorepositories with electronic medical record (EMR) systems for large-scale, high-throughput genetic research.

Doug attended to better understand similarities and explore possible synergies between eMERGE and the MURDOCK Study (and related Duke projects), in particular as it relates to “phenotyping,” or the transformation of raw EMR data into clinical characteristics or features that can be used in research.
